Sadaqah is a form of voluntary charity which is highly emphasized in Islam as it carries great rewards and brings numerous benefits.
In today’s world, many individuals and families are going through rough patches. Some are suffering through illness, others are struggling with financial hardships, and a few are grieving the loss of their loved ones. In times of difficulties, Muslims are encouraged to give Sadaqah. Sadaqah donation is a means to ask for Allah’s forgiveness and mercy to alleviate these hardships one is suffering from. Sadaqah donation is an act of faith in Allah’s provision. By donating Sadaqah, Muslims believe in purifying both wealth and soul.
“Charity (Sadaqah) extinguishes sin, just as water extinguishes fire.” - Prophet Muhammad SAW [Tirmidhi 614]"
Sadaqah is not judged by how big or small it is, but on how it helps people and how regularly it is done. It is not an obligation but instead a practice performed to cleanse your soul, ward off calamities, and put your heart and mind at ease.
Give Sadaqah regularly in your name or the name of a loved one and reap all its rewards! Allah (SWT) rewards those who give generously to those in need
A selfless act of kindness, Sadaqah is given from the heart to bring ease, comfort, and blessings to others. It is a type of voluntary charity in Islam that includes giving more than just money. It could be a smile, kind words, or lending a helping hand. It is a great way to get blessings from Allah (SWT) and help needy people. The more we give Sadaqah, the more we strengthen our faith, and we expect Allah’s blessings in this world and the hereafter.
How Al Mustafa Spend Your Sadaqah Donation
Al Mustafa Welfare Trust spends your Sadaqah to build and manage mosques, schools and hospitals, feeding the hungry, install water pumps, provide shelter, supply necessities, sponsor Hafiz, aiding people affected by disaster and war, and for various other noble causes. Whether you are looking to donate just a few pounds to Sadaqah, or want to fund a cause, we can utilize your Sadaqah donation to make an impact on the most vulnerable individuals.
What is the difference between Sadaqah & Sadaqah Jariyah?
Although both are charity, the act of Sadaqah is more like offering food or money to somebody in need. It helps right away.
But with Sadaqah Jariyah, people will continue to benefit even after you leave this world. For example, you may help build a mosque or water well or educate a child or an orphan. Both types of charity are good ways to earn the favor of Allah Almighty. However, Sadaqah Jariyah has a lasting impact for future generations.
The purpose of Sadaqah is to make a difference and help those less fortunate than ourselves. We give Sadaqah with the goal of benefiting the poor. In every aspect of Islam, we are taught to support one another and help our less fortunate brothers and sisters through whatever struggles they are experiencing. Sadaqah Jariyah is an extension of this, encouraging us to spread our generosity and become closer to Allah (SWT) in the process.
Unlike giving Zakat, Sadaqah is not compulsory. Muslims are free to give Sadaqah Jariyah gifts whenever they please, with no restrictions on the level of their financial contribution.
Anyone who wishes to give charity can offer Sadaqah, including Muslims—who are encouraged to give—and non-Muslims, since it is a voluntary form of charity. It may be given by men or women, and even by children through their parents on their behalf. Both the wealthy and the poor can give Sadaqah, as even small acts are considered meaningful. Unlike Zakat, Sadaqah is voluntary and not obligatory, carries no minimum wealth requirement (nisab), and can be given at any time.
Sadaqah Jariyah can be given at any time during the year. Giving your Sadaqah gifts with Al Mustafa Welfare Trust is a brilliant way of ensuring that whatever you must give is making a difference. Whether you are looking to donate just a few pounds a month, or want to fund a complete cataract surgery, we can utilise your Sadaqah contribution to make an impact on the most vulnerable individuals in the world. Whilst the benefits of Sadaqah and Sadaqah Jariyah stay with you into the Hereafter, they also impact you within your daily life, boosting your mood with the knowledge that you are helping those in need.
Our life-changing and sustainable projects enable us to make a difference to the lives of people for years to come, ensuring that we also join in the benefit of ongoing reward. This means you will receive countless rewards for a single donation, even after you have passed away. You can even give on behalf of a deceased loved one, as they will continue to gain reward from it for as long as people benefit from it.
Most of our Sadaqah Jariyah Projects are Zakat applicable so you can fulfil your religious obligation and earn the endless rewards of Sadaqah Jariyah at the same time. We especially take pride in our 100% Zakat Policy. It means that every single penny of your Zakat donation will go directly to those who need it most 100% of the time – giving you 100% of the reward.
Allah tells us in the Qur’an that the reward of spending in charity is like:
“A grain of corn which grows seven ears, and each ear has a hundred grains” [Qur’an, 2:261]
Sadaqah and Zakat differ greatly. Zakat is a compulsory donation which requires 2.5% of your annual wealth to be donated to charitable causes. Zakat is also determined by the level of wealth one has, as individuals must have wealth exceeding the Nisab in order to pay Zakat. There are also guidelines around who can receive Zakat, as they fall within eight categories. Zakat is paid on a yearly basis.
On the other hand, Sadaqah is a completely voluntary donation with no restrictions on eligibility at all. Whoever you are and whatever your wealth, if you choose to support others through a Sadaqah contribution, you can.
As previously mentioned, Sadaqah is a completely voluntary act of charity and there is no specification of how much should be given. This is amplified by the fact that whilst donating to eligible causes is the most common form of Sadaqah, you can also impart knowledge or give spiritual items as part of your Sadaqah Jariyah gift, too. There is no predefined rule for how much you give or what you do, so long as you are benefitting others.
Sadaqah is a one-time act of charity that provides immediate help, like giving food or money. Sadaqah Jariyah is ongoing charity, like building a well or school, that benefits others and earns continuous rewards even after the donor’s death.
